Open mail and distribute Drop Shipping

Are you familiar with USPS Priority Mail Open and distribute?
For some clients mail, express mail drop shipment is a well kept secret that they are not aware, and as a result are missing out on some great opportunities for improved performance and reduce costs.

For those of you who are not familiar with this service, which is technically called Priority Mail Open and distribute (PMOD) by the United States Postal Service ® (USPS). It is a method of drop shipping postal mail at the entry points using express mail as the method shipping rather than the more traditional methods such as truck, less than load (LTL) or air freight. The same service is available via Priority Mail Open and distribute (EMOD) but is more expensive due to the faster delivery service (next day).

No matter what level of service used, and distribute Open is a very clever way to drop ship to the points of entry with a smaller volume of email that make more shipping methods traditional cost prohibitive. Its action is to enter the mailpiece to normal shipping rates (eg, newspapers, Standard, etc), and place the trays or bags mail sacks for Priority Mail delivery to the post entry point. By using special tags bag, these bags priority mail is identified to contain the USPS drop shipped by mail, the USPS then opened and distributed into sacks, as normally would be defeated. Shipping charges are Priority Mail pay at the weight of the mail in the bag of hours (and the empty weight of the bags or trays inside the sac PM), and essentially replaces the shipping costs have been charged by the freight companies if the more traditional delivery method were used.

Automating PMOD
In the past, this process was very tedious, because the mail had to be separated manually, manually tagged with PMOD labels, and postage statements generated manually. Now, however, there are software solutions that enable these functions automated to the point that it is much longer and cost effectiveness of using PMOD.

How can take advantage of PMOD mail programs? There are three main benefits of using PMOD:

1) If you are experiencing delays in deliveries to remote locations or distant (eg, Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico), or anywhere else for that matter, PMOD can be a great way to shorten the delivery time. Priority Mail is presentation standards of 2-3 days, so that the mail is entered into the post entry points much more quickly than if the mail is entered at the destination, in printing plant or store card.

2) You can take advantage of discounts up to drop ship for mailing entry points with low densities, such as Butte, MT or Fargo, ND.

3) You can mail a cheaper standard rates, but get very close to the standards of delivery of first class if you use PMOD to drop ship for additional entry points.

Your correspondence can be easily analyzed to determine whether PMOD will be beneficial for you to use. Use Mail.dat a file, can process this file through post-management software Mail.dat presort plan in a "fast" mode. This lets you see all the possible entry drop ship items for which your mail rate. You can then go a step further by applying the costs of transportation to points of entry to large volumes of mail. All entry points with small volumes can be exported in the software PMOD to determine the estimated cost of shipping PMOD.

If you have no post-management software mail.dat presort, you can ask to your printer / mailer to carry out these tests for you, or you can contact a provider of such software to request a demonstration or test the program. If you have been hesitant to use the PMOD dwells on the concerns of the application, or are completely new to PMOD, you owe it to yourself and your company to check the possibilities of this great program USPS.
